About me / Statement

In my work my principle sources of inspiration are gardens emerging from chaos, flowers in a bud or already bursting open, the role of the mineral and more recently the presence of birds.

In interpreting the subject, figurative, intuitive or occasionally organic shapes flood the canvas. In order to express the power and the beauty of the natural world, I often use bright and warm colors.

I give texture on the surface of my canvas before starting a new painting and then I use the shapes of the texture to create my composition. I like building up successive thin, transparent washes that create areas of translucent color.

To me, this technique really allows me time to get into the painting and to work on a few canvases at the same time.

Lastly, my work attempts to translate an aesthetic experience borne from an observation of the natural world or from memory. This act of transposition is to bring nature indoors by use of canvas as a pretext. Living in an urban environment, I have only felt an even greater need to portray nature poetically. In a word, to create an anthology, a universe alive yet soothing.
